Today I’ve been recording this lovely little shruti box - it’s annual day out - for some slow and evocative music library work with my friend, also Huw, @kinemaaudio. It’s for a body of work we like to call Ghost Towns.
Another week done, well, until Saturday, and the kids are playing so well, against the odds - the grown ups too.
Oops, the ship sailed. I’ve had my head in my guitar lately...oblivious.
Sailing today.

Hello, how are you?
From a long walk out of Nottingham on a school-holiday Friday, to Keyworth to Bradmore to Plumtree and back. Huge barns and silos, long desolate tracks, large soulless villages, with literally not a soul to be seen, like a quiet apocalyptic dream. Everywhere silent except for the perpetual moan of the wind in the cables, and the distant cry of cattle.
In 1998 my band at the time - Manatee - was recording Easy / Seacow at Square Centre Studios with Ric Peet. We had interest from ZZT, Independiente, Big Life, and Rough Trade but that all came to nothing, and we were really happy to get the tracks out on the little Indy label Shifty Disco in ‘99.
The River Trent - it’s become my seaside.
Earth the Californian Love Dream, around 2005, minus @jonny8track who was probably in the bad books.
New additions to my teaching kitbag. Both potentially life-changing; one definitely more enjoyable than the other.
Posted @withregram • @thelowdrift Band meeting tonight. Plans are afoot for the release of our debut album. #thelowdrift #newmusic #debutalbum #erthorpe #tornsail #huwcostin #matthill
Seascape or landscape?
A man needs his ridge and furrow - It’s good for perspective.
Something for the season, from way back in 2007, but written a few years before that. It hit the shops just as they were closing on Christmas Eve. Not the best marketing strategy perhaps.
Out today: @torn_sail - A Beautiful Life (@brown_fang remix).
Today I’ve been sitting with my cans on, watching the snow drifting down from a metal-grey sky while giving the Low Drift masters a final play.
Beautiful trees near Edingley.
Heading East from Clipston on the Wolds. Hemmed in between the slicing lorries and silent buzzards of the A607 and the A46.
Sunset, Bulcote, model farm.
